Guus Hiddink, former Dutch national coach and coach of clubs like PSV, Real Madrid and Chelsea tells this beautiful anecdote about Maradona.
“I was going to play for the Australian national team against Uruguay and I didn't want to do the preparation in Montevideo. Then I went to Buenos Aires and established a training camp there. I was having coffee after lunch when someone approached me with a phone. First I fired him because I thought it was a radio show or something like that, but I let myself be persuaded anyway, "Hiddink begins. "When I heard it was Diego, I thought they were cheating on me, but it turned out to be real," adds Guus.
Call in which El Pelusa invited Hiddink to witness a Boca Juniors against River Plate in La Bombonera:
“He asked me to go to Boca Juniors - River Plate, in La Bombonera. What I experienced there… He had his own box there, but without any luxury, everything was very normal. Maradona came out to look over the railing and people immediately burst into tears, there was a standing ovation. It was as if God was looking down ”continues the Dutchman.
“During the game I didn't even have that much time to talk to him. He was very busy with the referee, he was insulting a lot. I was really into the match, "concludes Hiddink.
